CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

DAWSON CREEK

Still great ski conditions at Bear Mountain Nordic Trails.

For more information or memberships please visit Bear Mountain Nordic Ski Association or contact: Pat 250-782-8796

TUMBLER RIDGE

Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Society reports: The recent snow has created some very good ski conditions, especially up Flatbed Creek to Flatbed Falls (7km return distance). The Golf-course and the Wolverine trails are also skiable. With some more snow in the forecast, it looks like we will be enjoying some late season skiing. As always with creek skiing, when temperatures warm up above zero for a while the creeks can become unsafe.

For details on these long-distance creek-skis feel free to contact Charles (250 242 3984) or Kevin (250 242 4860).

FORT ST. JOHN

The Whiskey Jack Nordic Ski Club reports: The Beatton trails were groomed and track set on Sunday, but now the snow is coming down so it will likely mean powder skiing until this weekend!  Great conditions for classic skiing.

SNOWMOBILING

Safe backcountry travel requires training and experience.  You control your own risk by choosing where, when and how you travel.  Please be aware of the risk of avalanche for all mountain areas.  Carry Peeps, Probes and Shovels at ALL times if you are heading out into the backcountry.  Please pack out everything you take in.

IMPORTANT!!!  Avalanche conditions for the Northern Rockies area can be found at CanadianAvalancheCenter and it is strongly suggested that you visit the site. There is ALWAYS a high risk of AVALANCHES in the mountains.

  • The Paradise Valley Snowmobile Cub out of Dawson Creek  reports: Very poor riding conditions. The trail system is eroding and showing open and bare spots. Areas open to sunshine are melting quickly and in some cases bare sections are already showing. The Community Pasture/River Road trails are unrideable. The Muskeg Lake and Puggins Mountain trail system are still in fair condition with recent snowfalls of 5cms. Always use caution when riding this time of year.

  • The Fort St John, Charlie Lake & Taylor areas reports: 3'' of fresh snow.  Trails are still in poor condition.  Watch out for stumps and  rocks and  take care.  LET IT SNOW! Our next meeting is on April 3rd.

  • Fort Nelson  reports: 2 inches of new snow make for fair riding conditions
  • Tumbler Ridge reports: Information on sledding conditions was not available at time of this report.

  • MacKenzie reports: Mackenzie area got a little dusting of snow over night but snow is hard on the base of the mountains and the trails.  Alpine still has good riding area as there is soft snow up there with lots of base snow.  Spring conditions are creeping up on us fast.

  • Chetwynd (Hasler & Silver Sands) Hasler area reporting fresh snow in the mountains.  Riding conditions are awesome!   The avalanche risk is extremely high!

Take the time to check your Peeps and change your batteries.

Always remember to use the buddy system when out riding.  Never Ride Alone.  Keep in mind that slides can happen at any time and there is ALWAYS a high avalanche risk in the mountains.

Think Safety!  Your Life Depends On It!
